FAQ’s

What is 1KT gold?
1KT gold is a gold metal alloy like 18KT, 14KT or 10KT gold.  Pure gold is mixed with other alloys like silver, copper and zinc to form the different karats of gold. The Gold One™ proprietary gold alloy, PAT 16,371,986 is similar to the alloys used in 18KT, 14KT, & 10KT gold.

What are the benefits of 1KT gold?
1KT Gold is a true gold alloy and considerably less expensive than 18KT, 14KT or 10KT Gold.  It allows the Gold One™ design team to create substantial gold jewelry at an elevated quality and affordable prices. 1KT Gold is a great way to upgrade from silver or base metals for your first piece of fine gold jewelry.

Why is Gold One “The New Standard in Gold”?
Recognizing the sustained high price of gold, The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has recently changed the regulations to allow U.S. retailers to offer their customers more affordable gold products in fineness less than 10KT gold. The new guidelines position the U.S. jewelry industry to be more competitive with countries like England whose standard is 9KT gold and Germany whose standard is 8KT gold.  Gold One™ 1KT gold is the best value of any gold jewelry brand worldwide.

Is 1KT gold real gold?
Yes! 1KT gold is a real gold alloy like 18KT, 14KT & 10KT Gold.

Is Gold One gold plated or a 1KT gold alloy?
Both!  Gold One™ is a true 1KT gold alloy.  Gold One™ is also 14KT gold plated to protect the jewelry from the elements and to match the gold color of your existing 14KT gold jewelry.

What is gold plating?
Gold plating is a method of depositing a layer of gold onto the surface of another metal. There are two types of gold plating: Micron Plating and Flash Plating.  Micron plating builds a substantial layer of gold over the body of the piece. This protects the jewelry from the elements and delays the effects of tarnishing. Flash Plating builds a very thin layer of gold over the body of the piece. This is used for color purposes. Example: To make a sterling silver earring look like gold.

What type of plating does Gold One use?
Gold One™ uses Micron plating to build a substantial layer of 14KT gold over the 1KT gold jewelry to protect the jewelry from the elements and to match Gold One™ to 14KT gold.

Will Gold One tarnish?
All alloyed gold will tarnish over time including 18KT, 14KT & 10KT Gold. Gold One™ has a generous layer of 14KT gold plating to greatly prolong the luster of the jewelry.

How do I care for my Gold One jewelry?
Gold One™ is Fine jewelry. Treat it with care as you would any 14KT gold piece.  Avoid hairspray, makeup, saltwater or any other corrosive elements.  Use any typical gold jewelry cleaner or jewelry cloth to clean and buff your Gold One™ jewelry.

 Is Gold One water resistant?
We do not recommend you expose any jewelry to pool water, sea water or the shower.  Chlorine, salt and typical hair products are all corrosive in nature and can accelerate tarnishing and discoloration in metals. Soap and water are fine.

What do I do if my Gold One jewelry tarnishes?
You may wipe it down with a jewelry cloth or in severe cases take it to a local jeweler to re-plate.

Is Gold One hypoallergenic?
Hypoallergenic, meaning "below normal" or "slightly" allergenic, was a term first used in a cosmetics campaign in 1953. It is used to describe items that cause or are claimed to cause fewer allergic reactions.  It is a common misconception that hypoallergenic means completely allergy free.
All metals used to create the Gold One™ proprietary 1KT gold alloy are hypoallergenic metals. However, Gold One™ does not claim to be allergy free as everyone has a different level of sensitivity to metals. One could be allergic to 18KT gold or to copper. Typically, if your skin reacts well to 14KT gold, you should have a similar experience with Gold One™ 1KT gold.

Can Gold One rings be sized?

Gold One™ rings can be sized by a professional jeweler.  Please make sure the jeweler has gold plating capability.  Note: Most retailers will offer different sizes of Gold One™ rings online.  If you do not see your size in store, please check the retailer’s online shop for size options and expanded assortments.
